Transitions® FAQ
Transitions® lenses automatically darken based on the level of sunlight, reaching an optimal tint for your light conditions. Transitions® Gen S™ can reach up to Category 3 darkness outdoors, while Transitions® XTRActive® can reach up to Category 3+ darkness for a deeper tint, including behind the windshield. Transitions® XTRActive® Polarized can also reach Category 3+ darkness and adds polarization for enhanced glare reduction. Drivewear® lenses reach Category 3 darkness and are polarized for enhanced glare reduction while driving and outdoors.
Performance may vary depending on lens color, material, temperature, and light conditions.
Not all Transitions® lenses are polarized. Transitions® Gen S™ and Transitions® XTRActive® are not polarized, while Transitions® XTRActive® Polarized and Drivewear® lenses are polarized.
Transitions lenses are a great option for all-day wear, adapting to changing light conditions by darkening outdoors and returning to clear or nearly clear indoors. For customers looking for the added benefit of polarization, XTRActive Polarized and Drivewear lenses provide enhanced glare reduction outdoors.
Yes, Transitions® lenses can be worn while driving, but performance varies by lens type. Transitions® Gen S™ and Transitions® XTRActive® lenses can activate behind the windshield, with XTRActive providing a deeper tint. Transitions® XTRActive® Polarized lenses also activate behind the windshield and provide polarization for glare reduction. Drivewear® lenses are specifically designed for driving and remain tinted behind the windshield while providing polarized glare reduction.
At nighttime, Gen S, XTRActive, and XTRActive Polarized lenses return to clear. Drivewear lenses remain tinted and are not intended for nighttime driving.
