Our Story

In 1997, a group of us sat down and discussed the world of possibilities available on the Internet. We were overwhelmed by the amount of information, resources, and Web sites available to us. However, each time we used a search engine or directory to try and find what we wanted, we were returned thousands of listings, most of which were unrelated and most often, we did not receive a defined list of products, services, and information.

The results from the search engines were sometimes helpful, but what did other consumers think of these sites, and were the search engines actually monitoring these sites to make sure websites were delivering quality information and products to the consumer. We knew there must be a better way, and we knew there were other people and consumers like us who knew exactly what they were looking for and wanted to find it quickly and easily through pre-reviewed lists of websites.

From these ideas, the United States Open Directory Project (www.usodp.org) and AmericasBest.com was born.

Since 1997 AmericasBest.com has grown from a small group of lists, to over 35,000 pages of lists, and continues to grow daily. Listings and suggestions for lists and websites are submitted by both users and website owners, and then each listing is reviewed by real people before it is listed and posted to AmericasBest.com site.

Once listed, we rely on feedback from consumers and the "report a link" from users for listings to either remain on the site or to be removed from the site.

Consumers like us because if we receive a complaint from them, we work on their behalf to get their problem resolved with the merchant. If the merchant does not resolved the problem with the consumer to our satisfaction, we will remove the merchant from our system. This gives the merchant an incentive to resolve issues and problems with buyers quickly and to the satisfaction of the consumer as well.

AmericasBest.com also monitors sites that provide information, and we will not list or continue to list any website that does not meet or continue to meet our standards.
